Content Management Systems.
Not just for control freaks.

There is a lot said for being in control, especially when it comes to websites.

As we know, websites need to keep up to date and looking fresh; outdated products still hanging around? Didn’t that member of staff leave six months ago? And what’s the “Special Offer for Christmas 2005” all about? Not really the image that a forward thinking business should portray.

So what does a Content Management System (CMS) actually do?

Essentially, just what it says: it enables you to manage the content of your website. Body copy, images, product descriptions, news stories, photographs, categories, menus and navigation, plus a lot more besides. It gives you control over your website. No waiting for changes to be made, no extra costs for web developers' time.

And if you’re already too busy to do this, you can allow your staff access to the CMS so that they can update the site for you. Sounds like a recipe for disaster? Not when you can decide which part of the system they have access to, and have final approval on what they have done before it goes live.

And just a final point... All of this is web based, so if you can access the internet then you can log-in to your CMS, whether it be in the office, at home or away on vacation. But that doesn't mean it is open to everyone - access is secure and by password only, which you decide and manage.

So there you go, keep ahead of the game by keeping on top of your website.

Is it difficult to use a CMS?
Do I need to learn HTML or programming?

If you can use Microsoft Word then you are already pretty much up to speed with using a CMS. It goes without saying that we’ll run through any system with you to make sure you’re happy, but they are designed to be as intuitive and user friendly as possible.

The whole system is built to be search engine friendly, enabling the search engines, such as Google explore the site; an extremely important factor that many CMS systems ignore completely. As well as being able to search all text in the site, you have opportunity of adding ‘meta tags’ to each picture and page to further encourage the search engines.

We appreciate that this is a lot to take in, so please feel free to get in touch if you’d like to discuss CMS websites with us in further detail. To see some examples of our work please click the icon to the right.
